Wardrobe Planning

"The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes.  That's why we need really special ones every now and then to make the walk more fun."  ~Carrie Bradshaw

Remember a while back when I did a post that included a few outfits?  Well several of you all enjoyed that, so I figured that while I was packing to leave for Costa Rica on TUESDAY (holla!), I would snap a few shots of my wardrobe for your viewing pleasure.

As I explained before, the idea of me doing a wardrobe post is hilarious.  I spent the better part of my childhood/high school years in jeans and baggy t-shirts.  I had my hair in a pony tail like 85% of the time.  And I think I only wore boots and tennis shoes.  Like ever.
Prime example--hair in braids, white volleyball t-shirt,
orange boxer shorts, dirty tennis shoes.
What I'm saying is that if there is hope for this girl to figure out how to put on a dress, use a straightner and walk in heels, there's hope for anyone.  That said, here are some of my Costa Rica outfits!

First up, swimwear.  We will have about 4 days at the beach and I intend on enjoying every minute.  While we're there, I am going parasailing and we have been discussing a catamaran cruise to see dolphins and the sunset.  So that's what we are going with attire wise.  (Please note that I've been doubling up my running and doing a crap-load of crunches this week...way to procrastinate, Tiffany....nothing like trying on swim suits to get you in gear!)
Top:  Floppy pink hat.  Blonde OK Girl said this was an essential.
Middle:  Black and white paisley swimsuit.  On sale, Target, $12.00
Bottom:  Turquoise and white swimsuit.  Target.  Two years ago.
Top:  Pink cover up.  Target.  All three of us girls going on the trip have it.
Bottom:  White sheer cover up.  Much cuter than this looks...I hope.
Next up, "going out" wear.  The plan (at least now when we're not all exhausted and sunburned!) is to wear sort of work out type clothes during the day, but to get dressed up cute to go out each night.  I'm trying to keep in mind it will be hot and humid and limit the number of shoes that I take....so here's what I've got so far.

Top:  Green tank top.  NY and Co.  $13.00
Bottom:  Navy shorts.  Old, like maybe high school.
Shoes:  New seersucker wedges.  More about those later.

Top:  Black shirt with sequins neck line.  Also old.
Bottom:  Jean skirt.  Passes Mrs. Franklin fingertip test.

Tops:  On left cut sleeve black with sequins.  On right black tank top with bow.
Bottom:  White shorts.  Old Navy.
Shoes:  Red wedges (not pictured)

Top:  One shoulder black shirt.  Bought last year, forgot where.
Bottom:  White shorts.  Express.
Shoes:  Red wedges.

Red one shoulder dress.
Seersucker belt.
Seersucker wedges.
Blue one shoulder dress.  From Blue Door Boutique, last year.
Seersucker wedges.

Top:  Red lace neck.  Express.
Bottom:  Navy blue shorts.  Forget where from.
Shoes:  Seersucker wedges (please note how much use I will get from these!)
And finally, every day wear.  We're not going to be sitting around sipping drinks by the pool most of the time (although on beach days that's totally going to happen!) on this trip.  We'll be ziplining and white water rafting and hiking volcanoes.  So...we're going with a more active every day wardrobe.  Luckily, I've got lots of running shorts and tank tops.  Not taking pictures of these since it's not too exciting.

Now, I also have to tell you about my traumatic shopping experience. Well I went out to stop at two stores and buy like three things.  I came home with this.  My mom would be proud.

Anyway, while I was shopping, I saw the seersucker wedges pictured in like every outfit above.  Target.  $24.00.  I had to buy them.  And then I wanted to wear them for GBaby's baptism on Sunday.  So I needed a dress.  I go to Ann Taylor Loft and find this adorable green dress, but didn't like the belt with it.  So I go find a really cute belt.  I put it all together and text it to my fashion advisors:  ND Friend and Blonde OK Girl, both of whom approve.

I leave the dressing room and tell the sales girl what I'm doing, and she proceeds to tell me that green does not go with seersucker (she called it blue, didn't even know the proper name).  Because of my prior inexperience with fashion, she freaked me out.  So I text ND Friend and tell her about it.  She says, "You tell her to tell that to this guy I know named TOMMY HILFIGER!"  So, I bought the dress and here is what we've got planned for the baptism.
Good lord I need some sun on my legs.  This is the important part--if you all agree with the mean sales lady (who was wearing some tie-dyed yellow maxi dress/mumu get up by the way) you need to tell me now before I leave for Colorado for the weekend to do this baptism thing!  Thoughts??

Have a great time in Costa Rica! It looks like you have several nice outfits that you can mix and match if you want. With regard to whitewater rafting, I found water shoes to be very beneficial. I think they may sell them at Target, too.

I have two daughters and might need to know this one day: What is the "fingertip test" a propos of skirts? And does it differ from the "does your mother know you're wearing that?" test?

You're good on outfits! Everything is cute and that means saleslady doesn't know what she's talking about.

I was about to suggest water shoes like K did in her above comment. I'm trying to remember if you said that you were taking some when we met up on Sunday.... I bet your tennis shoes will stay soaked the whole week because, from what I understand, things don't really dry out there.

Love those seersucker wedges, love that green dress, and I've found the Loft at Uptown to have 100x nicer people than the other one... Just food for thought.

Have so much fun!
