As I mentioned before, last week I judged the State FFA junior high speech contest. It brought back memories of me being 14 years old and giving a speech wearing that royal blue corduroy jacket.

Of being nervous and excited and naive all at the same time. Of notecards, and gold medals, and after-contest burgers at Dick's cafe. Of dances and discussions (usually one sided) about skirt lengths and sneaking out early to beat the lunch rush at Nelly's. But mostly, it brought back memories of him...Mr. Franklin...being there with me for all those moments for all those years.

As I watched the students at at the contest, I wanted to tell those kids to listen to every word that their ag teachers were telling them. And to appreciate the hugs and the smacks on the back after their speech was over. And to take in the grouchy old men's eyes welling up when results were posted. Because one day, those grouchy old men won't be there anymore...and those moments will mean more than they ever realized at the time.

i love that you shared your movie theatre snacks - that is so sweet! and yes, it's so much better to have a lot of love in your life than to have someone in it that shouldnt be! happy almost weekend doll! :)
