Last weekend I watched a group of girls from Logan High School win the 2013 State Basketball Tournament. This just a year after our boys won state last year.
I couldn't have been happier for them. No Logan girls team had won that banner since 1980. The last time we had been in a state semi-final was my senior year, when these girls were in kindergarten. I know all the years--all the hours of practice, all the suicides ran, all the free throws taken, all the plays practiced, all the blood, sweat and tears--that went into getting that trophy home. We all know. And that's why the whole town packed The Pit on Saturday to be part of this. I loved cheering these girls on this year and I'm proud to be a Longhorn!
And because I'm a bit competitive, I may have made a bet with my dear friend Pharmer Girl, who happens to be a Melrose High School alum, the team that my girls beat on Saturday. To see the results of my winning that bet, go to her blog here.
