Most people don't blog on the weekends, which leaves me with two days of nothing new to read about other than the news on MSN (speaking of that, I have developed an unhealthy obsession with the Malaysia Air flight 370 news). Anyway, in light of that, I decided to share a few weekend reads with you....just some of the posts or stories I've read this week that I found interesting. Enjoy.
1. This blog talks about a time when the author was asked to make a sacrifice to help others because that is what Jesus would have done. I love the whole message, every word. The fact that it involves shoes (which we all know I love) makes it even better.
2. This blog where a girl talks about her need to have everything be neat and organized and how maybe she should just let life be messy. Maybe we try so hard to keep our houses and offices clean and neat because we think that if they are not a mess, or life cannot be a mess. And maybe we should just let go and enjoy the fact that messy can sometimes be good. If you're Type-A like me, you probably need to read this one.
3. This post that talks about how maybe when we claim to be "waiting on God" we really need to get a move on. I think that generally I'm not too bad about this one (The Boy from Texas might disagree beings that we still live 9 hours apart!), but I know a lot of people in my life who really struggle with this and sort of end up stuck in a rut because of it. I think sometimes we use "waiting on God" as a bit of an excuse when we are scared to make a move. Maybe, in truth, He is waiting on us!

Facebook Status Updates That Might Have Been (Part 2)
And now, for Part 2 of "Facebook Statuses That Might Have Been" (had I not given Facebook up for Lent and all).
1. Today, I drove to Van Horn, Texas. Directions: Drive to the end of the earth. Then go 100 more miles.
2. Pretty sure I am going to win the $1 million prize.....8 games in and my bracket is still perfect (yes, I picked Harvard over Cincy and Dayton over Ohio State).
3. Sour cream sauce---whatever the heck that is---does NOT qualify as Mexican food.
4. Thank you to the nice man who picked me up off the ground after my heel got stuck in a crack in the sidewalk in front of a gas station and I managed to do an epic faceplant. You are good people, sir.
5. Whoever said "absence makes the heart grow fonder" clearly was not a long distance relationship and can suck it.
6. Seven days after being planted in my flowerbeds, I am happy to report that all flowers remain alive and well! It's a horticultural miracle!
7. Dear toilet that overflowed and flooded my bathroom for the second time in a year....I've about had enough of you and your crap. Literally.
8. Dear stupid, snobby college that did not admit my sweet Baby Hepburn.....Big mistake. Huge. You just wait and see where this girl is headed!

Funny Conversations with The Boy From Texas (Part III)
This boyfriend of mine is something else. Here are a few of his latest gems.
*Discussing people living in big cities like New York*
The Boy from Texas: I don't understand why you would want to live there. It's just a big feedlot.
Me: A feedlot?
TBFT: Yep. Think about it. They all get herded around streets that are like alleys. They all come out into the streets to eat. They're just getting fattened up to eventually die.
Me: Wow. That's a country boy's view for ya.
*Regarding some magazine list suggesting that a girl should write a boys name in lipstick on the mirror to keep the romance alive*
The Boy from Texas: Why would you do that? Who will clean that up? Some city girl wrote this.
*He calls me from a car dealership asking my thoughts on him buying a new pickup.*
Me: Well, it's not my money.
TBFT: One day you might have a say in this so I want your opinion.
Me: Well you really should probably do what you want because one day I won't let you anymore.
TBFT: Good point. I gotta go.
Me: We got ND Friend's save the date addressed to [my full name] and [his full name].
TBFT: Will we always be getting mail addressed like that? (Obviously, he's asking if I'll change my last name if we get married.)
Me: I suppose that all depends on you obtaining a shiny, round item.
TBFT: Um...I...well...man, you can always turn things around on me. It's amazing.
*I actually don't remember what led up to this one.*
Me: That was kinda mean.
TBFT: I'm just giving you a hard time. No one else does it, so I feel like that's my duty.
Oh, also, we're adding in a little something this time. TBFT has taken to sending me songs he likes when he hears them on Pandora. Best.Thing.Ever. It's like a new playlist for me every day! Here are couple of his current finds:

They Have To Clean The Bathroom Too
"The danger comes when you look around and see everyone else's best and think it's their always." ~Unknown (some blogger, I'm pretty sure, but I didn't write down who said it!)
Sometimes, I catch myself thinking about what life would be like had I made different decisions. Usually it is on a lazy Saturday when I am doing something horrendously ordinary, like cleaning the bathroom, that my mind wonders what might have been.
Had I gone to law school on the East Coast as was the original plan, until I woke up one day in late April and cancelled said plans and made new ones, all by noon. I picture a quiet little townhouse in Georgetown and days spent wondering the neighborhood and running amongst the monuments.
Of course, I think of my beautiful little apartment overlooking the Bay in San Francisco. With Saturdays full of trolley rides and Farmers Markets and weekend getaways to Napa.
I think of a tiny village in Switzerland that stole my heart the first time I set foot on its ground. The one with breathtaking views and bike trails and Coupe Denmark for dessert.
It's easy to get caught up in the what might have beens...so think about how life would be different and more glamorous and well, just more.
But then I realize, all of those people who made those choices that I did not? They have to clean the bathroom too. Because life is not always the grand adventure that we picture in our heads. Because the paths untaken are not full of only fun in the sun and beautiful views. It's true whether you are in a little town in Texas or a big city by the ocean.
And it does me good to remember that sometimes.

Old Friends
This week, I got to catch up with two of my oldest friends.
They immediately laugh when we talk about broken noses, because they remember mine. They know why it is ironic that I am really good with directions now (the teacher literally posted the directions on the wall when I was in 5th grade because I could NOT get it). They can get through half a sentence, nod, and not finish, yet I know exactly what they are thinking. We reminisce about the time she chased her twin brother with a butcher knife and the time that I caught his ex girlfriend going through his drawers and kicked her out. Truth be told, these two probably know me better than I know myself.
I suppose that 20 years of friendship does that to people.
So find your people---the ones who make you think and make you laugh and protect you and remember the little details---and then hang on like crazy.

Answers To Your Questions
Thanks to those of you who submitted questions for me to answer in lieu of having to be creative and think up my own blog topics this week! Here we go....
I see that you have been in quite a few weddings, do you have a go to gift for the couple, the shower and/or the bachelorette?
I have been in quite a few weddings.....I'm actually quite close to having a double digit number of bridesmaid dresses hanging in my closet. I am not, however, a very good gift-giver. Do you go with the registry? Do you venture out? I never really know. But here is advice that several brides and BFF have told me. I tend to believe them: Give us money. It's true, people would rather have money or a gift card a lot of the times than the third set of mixing bowls. I use this example because more than once after his wedding, BFF called me screaming about all the mixing bowls in his house. Weddings are expensive. Honeymoons are expensive. Life is expensive. Yes, I know it's not etiquette and it's not personal, but I've never seen anyone complain about a little green in an envelope.
I was catching up on blogs and read the one about the green river. How much green dye does it take to turn a river green? And for that matter, how much orange dye does it take for the fountain at OSU on homecoming?
Excellent questions. I have no idea. I had never put together the fact that I love the orange fountain and the green river---apparently I like water being dyed! I never watched the dyeing of the fountain at OSU, was that open to the public? I did, however, watch the green river dying. There comes along a speed boat all the way down the river and a little guy in said speed boat dumps out a crap ton (technical term) of dye all down the river. Then he'll circle back and dump some more. It really was something to see!
When do you plan to see College Roomie again? It's been toooo long already.
Amen. Too long indeed. I miss the days when I saw you every day in our happy little home on Duck Street in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Complete with boys doing homework in the Judge's chair, gas leaks, organized dishes, BFF sleeping on Snuggles, and burned popcorn. Okay.....well for sure I'll see you at Blonde Oklahoma Girl's wedding in August. I'll be in NM several times this summer to go to the lake, so perhaps you and McCain can tear yourselves away from your bookstore dates and come to the lake with The Boy from Texas and me?? I'll drive the boat safely and you can wear floaties.
With all of the traveling you've done, which place would you visit again in a heartbeat? And which has been your favorite place to travel to?
Oh, sister, I could write for days on just one of these questions! I absolutely love to travel and have fallen in love with several places that I've been. I also really struggle with wanting to go back to the same places instead of finding new, equally awesome places. That said, I'm giving you a Top 5 list (It's actually kinda 7...) in no particular order.
1. San Francisco. It's no secret that I love this city. The energy, the breeze off the bay, the food, the Golden Gate....I'm in love. Plus I spent a life-changing summer there back in 2008, so it holds a special place in my heart. I've taken a ton of people there from my girlfriends to my cowboy hat wearing, rancher of a father and they have all LOVED it. It's a must. Oh, and last thing, if you're a runner....the SF Marathon lets you run across the Golden Gate Bridge and back and Bay to Breakers is the most fun race ever! Top stop: Alcatraz tour.
2. Costa Rica. If you're up for some crazy adventure, book your trip right this minute. I almost drown white water rafting (other than that scary part that day was awesome!), saw smoke spewing from a volcano, parasailed, soaked in a hot springs, ziplined and Tarzan swung through the jungle, swam under a waterfall.....seriously, it's an adrenaline junkie paradise down there. It's also beautiful, I felt totally safe (save the whole drowning incident), and it's quite reasonably priced! Oh, plus, after a few days analyzing our love lives in the sun both Blonde Oklahoma Girl and I ended up with boyfriends and dream jobs, so that's something to think about.... Top stop: White water rafting near La Fortuna.
3. Switzerland. I'm not sure if it was because it was my very first stop in Europe in my life, or if it really is as amazing as I remember it, but I fell in love with Switzerland the moment I stepped off of that plane. It looks like a fairy tale. Breathtaking views of the Alps, beautiful crystal clear water, houses that look like coocoo clocks.....it was heaven. We spent most of our time along the north shore of Lake Geneva in some of the small villages. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Top stop: Montreux.
4. Notre Dame. This one is applicable probably only to football fans, but if you've read my blog for any length of time, you know that I've got to include this. I've been to three games at the University of Notre Dame and I'm telling you, it is an experience like none other. The history, the tradition, the faith....it's amazing. Game day is seriously a spectacle all its own. From the Grotto to the steak sandwiches to the gold helmets running out of the dome, it's something that you will never understand until you see it in person. Top stop: Game day.
5. Rome. Here's the thing about Rome...it's a bit more "big city" than I usually like. But, there is just something about walking around ancient ruins and seeing things like the Coliseum or the Sistine Chapel that you've seen in books and on tv your whole life with your own eyes. Plus there are amazingly beautiful Piazzas that you just stumble upon when you turn a corner. In my mind, Rome is a must see, but maybe not somewhere I'd venture back to repeatedly. Oh, but the lasagna? For real.
6. Poland or Vienna (stick with me here). I realize that "Poland or Vienna" really doesn't narrow things down too much. But I think that depending on your personality, you'll like one over the other. Poland is beautiful, rural, and more quiet. If you are a Pope John Paul II fanatic (like me) and enjoy small towns (like me), I predict you'll love Poland. If, on the other hand, you are more into big cities and shopping and culture, you'll love Vienna. Top stops: Poland--Pope John Paul II Tour. Vienna--St. Stephens Cathedral (it will seriously take your breath away!)

10 Photos, 3 Words
College Roomie gave me the idea to share 5 photographs and caption them with only 3 words each. Yea....you know I was going to cheat on this one. I did stick to the 3 words each, but I couldn't choose just 5 pictures. Instead, I had to choose 10 pictures and I limited the selection to my favorites from the last year. Here we go....

A Few Days at Home
“Things don’t have to be extraordinary to be beautiful. Even the ordinary can be beautiful.” ~Wicker Park
This was the first time in a LONG time I had a weekend at home and nothing major to do. Plus, Thursday and Friday I was off for Spring Break. There were no bar exam flashcards to study, I was not spending the weekend flying back and forth to Amarillo, I was not rushing around trying to get to a presentation somewhere...I seriously didn't know what to do with myself! It was a pretty laid back few of days and I really enjoyed that.
On Thursday I ran a bunch of errands and then headed to the office. I was a speaker at a webinar for on agricultural leases. My friend Cari and I spoke to over 60 attorneys about farm leases, grazing leases, hunting leases, and pipeline easements. It was a lot of fun! I spent the rest of the afternoon getting materials together and working on a schedule for the ag law class that I will be teaching in the fall at the Texas A&M Law School. Seriously, professors put in a LOT of work to get a class together!
On Friday morning I took my pick up in to be serviced and then spent a couple more hours at the office catching up on stuff. There was an article about my ag law blog that generated a lot of phone calls, so that was pretty fun. Then my aunt and cousin were in town so I showed them all around Texas A&M and then we went out for yummy Italian food. This was only after I nearly had a nervous breakdown upon finding out that one of my favorite restaurants here in town had been closed down due to asbestos. I'm still in mourning over the loss of their rosemary chicken pasta.
On Saturday morning I got up and went for a run. Even though it was early and not that hot, it was super humid and I swear I wanted to quit .25 miles in (I made myself keep going, but it was miserable.) It's going to be a long 6 weeks getting ready for the half marathon!
Then I headed to Houston to go to a wedding shower for my cousin's fiance. I'm honestly not much of a shower fan---I think they are awkward---but this one did contain great decorations and my fun family, so I'll give it a thumbs up. And then there were seriously the most delicious cupcakes that I have ever tasted, courtesy to my Cousin Mim. Can't beat that!
After I got home from the shower, I took a little nap and then made a trip to Lowes where I spent entirely too much money on stuff for my garden and flower beds. After that, I spent 3 hours cleaning out my garage. Oh, and I also replaced all the burned out light bulbs in the house. I'm wild and crazy like that on Saturday night.
Sunday I got up early and worked in the yard--raking, pruning, cleaning out flower beds, planting. I seriously made myself sore from all of this! But it was a perfect way to spend a Sunday.
These few days were a good reminder that sometimes it's good to just stay put, relax, and stop to smell (and plant!) the roses. Of course, it's a good thing I got this reminder now because I am going to be out of town 17 of the next 30 days. We'll see if my poor plants make it through!
