A Little Reminder

"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else." ~ C.S. Lewis

I was tired. And getting sick. My throat hurt, my head throbbed and I couldn't breathe out of my nose. I was reading oil and gas royalty contracts (aka the definition of boring). There was baby crying. Loudly. My seat was not comfortable. The guy behind me kept messing with his tray table and in doing so kept poking me in the back. My iPod battery had died.

And then, I looked out the window and saw them. The Rocky Mountains. Covered in snow. Not a person in sight. No houses. No highways. Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful. If you've ever doubted that there is a God, take a look out of an airplane window between Albuquerque and Denver.
Sometimes, in the midst of the chaos that is our life, God sends us a little reminder that there is something bigger. Something that we can't begin to understand. That we are part of something great. And suddenly, all that other stuff seems completely insignificant.

I love that the reminders are often timeless. Like the Rockies. They've been on this Earth long before me and they'll be here long after I'm gone. God gives gifts that keep on giving. And in the words of the other Amy's brother: Good job, God.
