Funny Conversations with The Boy from Texas (Part VIII)

I thought a few funny conversations might help brighten up your Monday.  Not going to lie, these may be the best ones yet.  (I also may get in trouble for posting some of them....)

*Before our trip to the mountains, I saw on Facebook they have a new zip lining course.  I immediately messaged my friend going with us and said we had to do it.  As I walked in the door from work....*
The Boy from Texas:  Do you want a divorce?
Me:  What??
TBFT:  No way in hell my pregnant wife is going to be zip lining.
Me:  Oh....I forgot I was pregnant!

*I'm in the kitchen making dinner, he is in the recliner in the living room.*
TBFT:  "Angus, what are you doing?  Angus, stop that!  Tiff!  Angus is humping my foot!  Tiff!  Make him stop!"

TBFT:  Holy crap. Our neighbors are all dressed up like knights and going to one of those weird parties.
Me:  Really?  That's weird. I wonder where the party is.
*15 minutes later*
Me:  What the heck?
TBFT:  What do you see?
Me:  A bunch of torches!
TBFT:  Great.  We moved down the road from Satan.

And now, a few gems from other boys in my life.

Little Brother:  I've seen you posting these pregnancy pictures on Facebook.  That's all fine.  But if you post one with your shirt rolled up over your big bare belly, I will unfriend you.

My Mom:  I don't know how you are going to make it two more months!  Where will that baby go?
My Dad:  They better not have him too early, have you guys even been married 9 months yet?
Me:  *counting*  No.  We've got to make it to July 25 so people don't talk.
My Dad:  This is hilarious, I can't wait to tell people at the family reunion!

Little Brother:  Would it be inappropriate if I bought a onesie that says, "I'm proof my mommy puts out?"
Me:  Yea, pretty sure that crosses the line.
Litte Brother:  What?  The baby can't read!
Me:  Where would you even find a onesie like that?
Little Brother:  I googled inappropriate onesies.
*For the record, he went this this one instead.*

Celebrating His Big 3-0

A year or so ago, we started discussing what we wanted to do to celebrate The Boy from Texas turning 30.  After my trip to Europe and girls football weekend for my 30th, it seemed only right to celebrate him in style as well.  So we tossed around some ideas and settled in on a summer trip to Ireland.  But, then, in January, we peed on a stick. Well, "we" didn't, just me.  And you all know, the rest is history.

Being that an overseas trip was not really in the cards for an 8 month pregnant lady, we had to go to Plan B.  We settled on the mountains of New Mexico.  And while it was no Ireland, we had a really good time!

The night before we left, we had a little birthday dinner and gift giving time just the two of us.  I made the birthday pie that received 5/5 on the scoring system.  Then I was very excited to give him his gift.  Like dancing around the living room kind of excited.  He seemed annoyed while sitting in his chair.  I asked if he would post a photo of the gift on Facebook.  He said that was stupid.  Finally, I gave up trying to get him all amped up and just let him open the present.

This was the face I kept getting.
And....viola.  I was no longer the one dancing around the living room.  Okay, maybe he wasn't dancing, but he was quite excited nonetheless with his Remington 1911 .45 pistol.

There's the happy face.

He had wanted one of these for a long time and had tried to win one last year at the NRA banquet, but no luck.  So, several months ago I started doing research and enlisted several friends for help.  I was pretty sure I could pull off the surprise because he wouldn't think I would trust myself picking out a gun (I didn't, several of his friends and mine had to reassure me) or think I would spend so much money on a birthday present (I'm a cheapskate).  Mission accomplished.

He would have gotten a more expensive model of gun, but he
got Angus instead.  Here is his with both his presents.

The next day, we were off for the mountains.  We dropped Angus off with our sweet friend Lisa, who kindly agreed to doggy sit for four days.  It was an exhausting ride to her house apparently.

Then after several stops along the way--including one at the tire shop to deal with a bolt in a tire--we arrived in Ruiodoso, home of cool mountain air, horse races, and the Inn of the Mountain Gods.  We met up with my parents and our friends from College Station and had a great time.  There was lots of stories told over beers (not for me, of course), some gambling, some horse racing, some balcony sitting, some shopping, some cupcakes, not much sleeping....it was excellent.

View from our balcony at the Inn of the Mountain Gods

With my folks.

I think that The Boy from Texas would agree that ringing in his 30th was a success.  He did, however, reject my proposal that we name the baby Ireland since we had to postpone our trip on his account.  What?  I thought it was creative.

Newlywed in the Kitchen Recipe #22: Red, White and Blueberry Pie

Thanks to my blog friend Brianne posting a beautiful photo of her patriotic pie on the Fourth of July, I knew exactly what I wanted to make for The Boy from Texas' birthday dinner.  It looked so pretty and The Boy from Texas loves strawberries and blueberries.

I've got to admit, I'm probably the proudest of this pie as I am any of my other Newlywed in the Kitchen creations.  Not only was it delicious, but it also looked fancy.  I think I'll keep this for pot lucks to try and impress folks with  my skills.

Now, as you will see below, I did make a minor mistake that changed my pie a bit from Brianne's original recipe.  I've written the original recipe in black with my modifications (due to necessity) in orange.

The Boy from Texas Rating:  5/5.  I told you guys it was good!!

The Boy from Texas Comments:  Man, this is really good. What's in there?  You can give this a 5!

Red, White and Blueberry Pie

Ingredients
1 refrigerator pie crust  {I bought one of the frozen ones already in a pan that you just thaw and bake briefly}
4 oz white baking chocolate  {Because I managed to burn this and didn't have any more, I left it out.  Honestly, I'm not sure I'll include it when I make the pie again because it was so good without it!}
1 quart fresh strawberries, divided
8 oz reduced fat cream cheese
3/4 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup fat free milk
3.3 oz instant white chocolate pudding
1.5 cups fresh blueberries
1 cup thawed whipped topping

Directions
Preheat oven to 425.  Let pie crust stand at room temperature for 15 minutes.  Gently unfold into deep dish pie pan.  Prick bottom & sides.  Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.  Cook completely.  {Or if you buy the frozen one in the pan, just thaw for 15 minutes and bake as directed.}

Melt baking chocolate.  {Pay attention here.  I did this in the microwave and burned it to an unusable crisp.}

Remove the tops of 8 strawberries.  Cut in half through the stem end.  Set aside, slice remaining strawberries.  Dip the halved strawberries halfway in chocolate.  Place cut side down on waxed paper.  Refrigerate for 15 minutes or until set.  Spread remaining chocolate over the bottom of the crust.  Arrange sliced strawberries on top of the chocolate.  {So because of my mistake, I just put the sliced strawberries directly onto the pie crust and didn't dip the halves that you set aside in chocolate.}

Beat cream cheese until smooth.  Gradually whisk in milk until well blended.  Add pudding mix & powdered sugar until thickened.  Spread evenly over sliced strawberries.  Allow to set for a few minutes.  Spread whipped topping over cream cheese mixture.

Place halved strawberries around the edges of the pie.  Fill in the center with blueberries.  Chill until serving.

Life Hacks #1

Ever since I learned about the concept of "life hacks" (thank you Pinterest), I've loved reading about other people's tricks!  FYI--life hacks are basically tips or tricks that people use to make life easier.  I thought I'd start keeping a list of my own life hacks to share periodically.  Here's the first go.

-  Thank you note labels.  If you are sending invitations to an event (wedding, baby shower, birthday party), make two sets of address labels.  Use one for the invitations, and then you've got the second set to use for thank you notes.  I'm a firm believer in hand written thank you notes (and you should be too!!) but having the labels all ready to go and not having to look up each address can really make the process much faster.  I did this for my baby shower and found it to be amazingly helpful.

- Shutterfly free gifts.  I'm cheap, so I'm always looking for stuff for free.  Enter Shutterfly.  If you've created an account, you will get their little advertisement emails.

About once a month or so, you'll get one offering you your choice of a free gift.  There are usually three or for options....one card, a magnet, a 8x10 photo, address labels, etc.  I always choose the address labels, which give me 24 free labels, I just pay the $2.98 shipping.  Because the offers come once a month or so, I  usually can re-stock before I run out from the last order.

Similarly, about three times a year or so, you'll get an offer for a free photo book.  If you're like me, you don't have time to scrapbook, but want to create memory books.  And....those books can get expensive!  I've created three free books in the last year, one of our engagement story and photos, one of our wedding, and one from our honeymoon.  The free version is usually the hard back 8x8 and I keep them on my coffee table.  I plan to continue this every time I get a free photo book offer code!

- Crock pot liners.  Confession:  We don't have a dishwasher.  I know, I know.  We're living in the dark ages.  So anything I can do to cut back on dishes---especially ones that are hard to get clean---you best believe I do!  One of those creations is a crock pot liner.  It's just a plastic bag you put in the crock pot before you put in your ingredients.  When you are done, you just pull the liner out, toss it, and then the pan is super easy to wash (heck, you might not really even need to wash it at all!)

-  Address box.  You may remember from this prior post my little address box creation.  I can't tell you how handy this is, especially when someone moves and changes their address!

What are some of your favorite life hacks?

Newlywed in the Kitchen Recipe #21: Grilled Chicken Salad

I don't know about ya'll, but I struggle with eating in the summer.  It's hot, I'm not that hungry, I don't want something heavy.  So last weekend when The Boy from Texas grilled burgers and corn for dinner one night, I had him throw on a couple of chicken breasts that I could use for lunches this week.

I decided to whip up a basic chicken salad for sandwiches.  It was seriously super easy, took no time, and was absolutely delicious.

The Boy from Texas Comments:  I like mayonnaise.  I don't really like chicken.  I'll pass.

The Boy from Texas Rating:  N/A.

My Rating:  5/5.

Grilled Chicken Salad

- Grilled chicken breast (I had really thin sliced ones and used about 1 per serving)
- Mayonnaise
- Mustard
- Hard boiled egg
- Sliced grapes
- Sliced apple
- Pepper

(You could pretty much add or take out anything you wanted....next time I may add some dried cranberries and pecans.  If you like celery and/or onions they'd go well too.)

*One warning....I didn't measure anything, just eyeballed it.  So good luck there.*

Put grilled chicken breast in food chopper/processor and grind.  Add mayo and mustard and mix.  Add hard boiled egg, grapes, apple and mix.  You may want to add more mayo/mustard at this point.  Top with pepper.  Cool before serving.

30 Things for His 30th

Someone is turning the BIG 3-0 on Friday.  And since you all know I'm old and already reached that milestone, that really leaves one clear answer......The Boy from Texas!  That's right, kids, he's joining the club of 30-is-the-new-20 (whatever that means).

In celebration, I've compiled a little list of 30 things I love about that husband of mine.

1.  He calls me out on my crap.  Sometimes I don't love this....like when he tells me not to be snarky or that my shoes are "ridiculous," but in the end, I love the fact that he has opinions and that we can discuss (sometimes loudly) when mine differ.  He helps me to be better.  I need that in my life.

2.  He has the biggest heart.  Out of the blue, he'll say something like "next Christmas, let's pay to have lights put on those people's house, they seem to be going through a hard time" or "there was a guy who was washing windows at the gas station today to try and pay his electric bill, so I gave him a $20."  I. adore. this.

3.  His baby blue eyes.  I'm a sucker for blue eyes.  I sincerely hope The Baby from Texas comes out with these same features.  The Boy from Texas' grandma assures me they are very strong genes!

4.  How he giggles at tv shows.  It makes me laugh to see this big, manly, guy giggle like a girl at something happening on MASH or Top Gear.

5.  His broad shoulders.  I love how he's strong and makes me feel tiny.  I realize that come two months when I'm trying to push out a kid who may have inherited said shoulders, my tune could be very different....

6.  He cares about details.  Example:  When our contractor called me to ask what color of door knobs we wanted, I said, "Um.....are there different ones?  Aren't they all, like, sliver?"  When I told The Boy from Texas I chose silver, he said, "Oh my gosh, no!  All the others in the house are black (I think there was some fancy name other than black, but you get my drift).  If we ever want to re-sell this place, no one will buy it without matching door knobs!"  Thank goodness one of us cares about these things.

7.  He loves animals.  I caught this when a horse he raised from a colt got colic.  I saw it again when our dog, Chili, died a month or so ago.  Now, I see it a lot when he's playing with Angus.  If someone doesn't like animals, I am just not sure they are good people.  No worry with him.

8.  He always has to be doing something.  The guy can't sit still.  He's constantly shredding or researching or starting at the addition making plans.  Having grown up with a dad that is the same way, I feel like that's how boys are supposed to be wired.

9.  He thinks before he speaks.  I'm a talker.  I'm sure you are all shocked by this.  Oftentimes, I blurt out whatever comes to mind without even thinking it through.  He's much quieter, he listens, thinks, and then responds.  I envy that.

10.  He's embraced his inner sheep shower.  Fortunately, he was a shower---of cattle, pigs and horses.  But since we started dating he's become quite the sheep kid.  He has shown them in pictures for our website, is excellent at blowing out legs at our sale, and we often have discussions about buying ewes and starting our own flock.

11.  He's protective.  At least once a week he says something like, "If anyone messes with you on that trip, I'll come down there and [fill in the blank with whatever physically violent outburst is appropriate.]"  And although my response is usually, "No, no, we don't use our fists because we have a baby now," I kinda dig the fact that he wants to fight for me.

12.  He wears the right jeans.  After living in the city a couple of times in my life and seeing what poor men try and pass of as jeans, a good, country boy in a nice pair of Cinch Jeans just makes me happy.

13.  How my head fits right in his shoulder.  Like two puzzle pieces.

14.  He's a good dancer.  This was high on the requirement list and he succeeded in meeting it.

15.  How he talks about his great-grandmother.  When we were moving our wedding gifts into the kitchen and throwing away our old stuff, he grabbed some old, ratty pink and white towels and said, "NEVER throw these away, they belonged to my grand grandmother."  This was my first sense of their relationship.  I've since learned that she babysat him while he was growing up and based on the fact that every time we discuss our kid going to a baby sitter he shakes his head and repeatedly says, "We just need my great grandmother" over and over tells me it was a pretty good time they had.

16.  He refuses to eat chicken salad, but loves scones and sushi.  He's mostly a real meat-and-potatoes kind of guy, but it makes me smile to know that he enjoys fancy fare like scones and sushi.

17.  He's going to be a good dad.  From his faithful response to the genetic screening situation, to how he reacts when he feels the baby move in my belly, to him saying, "Take care of my boy" when I leave on work trips, I know he's going to nail this fatherhood thing.

18.  He loves my family.  If you've read this blog for any amount of time, you know my family is crazy.  We're big, loud, opinionated, and forceful.  The Boy from Texas embraced them and fits right in.

19.  He doesn't overthink things.  It's good to have one of us in this relationship about whom that can be said.

20.  He's funny.  You've all read my series "Funny Conversations with The Boy from Texas."  So you know.

21.  His sweet tooth.  Once, when I made cookies for dessert, his response was, "What?  No ice cream to go with them?"  A man after my own heart.

22.  He, too, is anti-Disneyland.  We've got a plan not to ever tell our child that a place like Disneyland exists.  So long as my Aunt Evil Kineval doesn't ruin said plan, we think it will work.

23.  He'd give you the shirt off his back.  He's a good person, sometimes to the point I feel like he gets taken advantage of and get angry, but he just continues to pour out kindness to others.  I should take some lessons.

24.  He has embraced my friends.  I've got quite the group of friends.  Loud ones, quite ones, tall ones, short ones, red ones, blue ones, and he's embraced them all.  Although I do think he secretly has a favorite, he always speaks kindly of them, asks about how they are doing, and seems to genuinely enjoy time with them.

25.  He's a shopper.  If I'm honest, most of the time this actually annoys me.  I hate shopping.  I want to go in, grab what we need, and leave.  He prefers to tour the store, look at everything, discuss when (and why) we need some random piece of equipment, then go home and research it online so we know---in the future should we ever need to buy one---what a good deal will be.  Again, good thing one of us enjoys this kind of thing.

26.  He just knows things.  Constantly he'll know how something works or how to fix it or the answer on Jeopardy and I ask, "How in the world do you know that?"  He just does.

27.  He's up for traveling to fun places.  Our list includes Ireland, the Grand Canyon, an Alaskan cruise.....

28.  He's accepted this blogging thing.  I honestly thought this might be a major issue.  He's a pretty private person and frequently comments on the fact that "because of that blog, everyone and their dog knows my business!"  Despite not loving that, he has seemingly gotten over it and now reads the blog and the comments and submits to assisting me with scoring new recipes and the like.

29.  He's everything I'm not.  I remember 10 years ago when SoulMate Friend was about to marry Tuba Man.  At her shower, she made the comment that she knew it was right because he was everything she was not.  Ever since, I held that little tidbit in my heart and when I found The Boy from Texas, I knew he fit that bill for me.

30.  The way he loves me.  I never thought I'd find someone who loves me as much or as well as he does.  And of everything, I love that most of all.

How Grown Ups Spend the Fourth of July

"We're adults.  When did that happen?  How do we make it stop?"  ~Grey's Anatomy

When I think about the Fourth of July, I immediately get visions of water skiing and burgers and fireworks and fruity drinks.  And then, at least this year, I snapped right back to reality.....I'm pregnant, The Boy from Texas is on call for work, we've got a million things to do around the house, and we're really trying to stay on a strict pre-baby budget.  Some days, I sort of forget that I'm an adult.

So instead of fun in the sun and acting like teenagers, we spent our weekend like grown ups.  Here's the run down.

Fixer Upper Inspired Project

The Boy from Texas has been talking for a couple of weeks about wanting to knock out a certain wall in our house.  He's got vision that I don't have, because I never would have thought of doing it.  So, on Friday, he convinced me it was time to undertake this project.  And, having watched enough Fixer Upper on tv, I knew that taking out walls was a legit thing to make a house look cooler, so I obliged.

We trecked to the hardware store where we bought wood, trim, a crow bar, saw blades, paint, and some other stuff I didn't keep track of.  We came home, and he got underway.  Mostly I handed him the saw when he wanted it and stayed out of the way.  We find this generally works best for projects of this nature.

Before...
...during...
....after.

Y'all.  I cannot tell you the difference getting rid of that one little wall made in the house.  It looks and feels SO much bigger and more open now!

Baby Clothes Organization

I think the nesting phase has begun.  I'm dying to get things organized--not just for the baby, but in our house.  However, until our addition is finished (hopefully 2-3 weeks!), I really can't do much.  One thing I decided I could do was sort through the MOUNDS of baby clothes people have given to us and organize them by size.

My rationale for this is that I don't want to try and keep a year's worth of clothes out in his room at one time.  Instead, I'm planning on only having a couple of sizes but away in the closet and dresser with the larger sizes waiting in tubs for the right time.  When he outgrows one size, we'll bring in the new ones, pack up the smaller ones, and be on our merry way.

Here were the clothing piles.  Can someone say spoiled?

Helplessly Looking Through the Disaster of a Garage

Our garage is packed to the gills of junk.  Boxes of my stuff from College Station.  Boxes of The Boy from Texas' stuff from his old house.  Furniture that won't fit in our house at the moment.  Furniture owned by Cousin Swiss Mister that somehow magically appeared in our garage.  It's enough to make the Type-A person in me go completely nutzo.  I am telling you, if it kills me, we are getting this thing cleaned out and stuff either sold, given away, or thrown away.

Selling Old Cabinets

After realizing that the cabinets we tore out behind the removed wall were in really good shape, we decided to do our first "for sale" post on a Facebook page for our little community.  Within 4 hours, we had sold the cabinets.  When I can finally clean out said garage disaster, I plan on utilizing this knowledge again!

Community Fireworks

We did at least get a little festive on Saturday night when we noticed lots of fireworks being shot off in town.  We loaded up Angus and headed to check out what was going on.  We found that at the city park, pretty much the entire town was gathered.  Most people were sitting on tailgates watching the fun, while apparently every family in town who brought fireworks gathered together to shoot them off.  While the festivities lasted for over two hours, Angus was not a fan, so we only lasted maybe 20 minutes before we took that little guy home and hoped that all the loud noise didn't cause any permanent harm.  Judging from the look of things, I think he's fine.

Clean Sheets

Is there anything better than going to bed after a busy day on fresh, clean sheets?  I think not.  On Saturday I got all our laundry washed, our bed made, and even managed to get the throw pillows placed just so.

Singing "God Bless America" at Church.

There are lots of great things about our little, small town church.  But on Sunday, with only maybe 40 of us in attendance, the pastor began singing, acapella, God Bless America.  By the end, we had all stood, joined in, and the American flag was brought down the aisle.  It's so easy to get caught up in all of the strife and opinions and party lines and politics and forget that we really do live in the greatest country in the world.  That song in that church was a pretty darn good reminder for me.

Reading Babywise

I hear good things about this book and approach to parenting an infant.  I'm about 3/4 of the way through the book now and have done lots of dog-earing and highlighting so far.

Had you told me this time last year this is how I'd be spending my long weekend, I'd have called you completely crazy.

The Baby from Texas: Weeks 21-30

30 down, 10 to go.  Talk about a scary thing to think about!  Yeesh!  In case you missed the prior updates, here are links to Weeks 0-10 and 11-20.

* Attended his first Agricultural Law CLE course in Lubbock.  Baby ag lawyer in the making?  Probably not if is dad has anything to say about it.

*  Received his first show lamb.  My friend and colleague sent the baby's first show lamb in the mail.  How dang adorable is this.  I foresee lots of showing practice in the future.  Gotta get 'em started young.

*  Watched a Triple Crown winning run on tv.  For the first time in something like 38 years, the Triple Crown was won by American Pharoah.  The Baby from Texas didn't seem all that excited, but his mother was.

*  Got a puppy.  He doesn't know it yet, but The Baby from Texas has a puppy.  And I can already tell these two are going to have great fun (and probably cause a lot of trouble) together.  Right now, Angus is patiently awaiting the baby's arrival by unpacking his clothes for him, and then laying on them.

*  Got tons of gifts.  The ladies from my hometown spoiled the baby rotten at his barnyard-themed baby shower.

* Attended his first wedding.  We went to the baby's first wedding, a lovely outdoor ceremony in the Panhandle.  He--the baby, not the groom--basically kicked the entire time, but did enjoy the cake!

*  Made himself known while being prayed over.  At said wedding, the mother of the groom and one of her friends offered to pray for The Baby from Texas.  We never turn down prayers, so they put their hands on my stomach and started praying.  That baby immediately started kicking up an absolute storm.  My friend, Super Mom, said one time that babies and little kids are maybe more perceptive to God because they have been removed from Heaven for such a shorter time than adults.  Might be something to that!

*  Went to his first winery.  While in Fredericksburg for meetings, some friends and I hit up the Fat Ass winery solely to snap this particular baby bump photo.

*  Went to a barn party.  We traveled to New Mexico for a barn party celebrating the wedding and baby of some dear friends.  Again, The Baby from Texas enjoyed the cake.  Anyone sensing a theme here?

* Inspired a new fun list of "Things Not To Say to a Pregnant Lady."  Here are the first couple.

(1)  "Here, sit down.  It must be exhausting carrying around an extra 60 pounds!"

(2)  "Are you sure you are not having a girl, because you are like big all the way around, not just in the front."

Summary (for those of us keeping score):
I've completed 3/15 items!  WOO HOO!!
I've made at least some form of progress on 12/15 items.

Here are the details.

1.  Visit 2 new states.  COMPLETE!

Prior months recap:  Georgia (January), Iowa (April), Minnesota (April)

Prior months recap:  Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist (February), St. John Paul the Great by Jason Evert (March), Before Amen by Max Lucado (April).

This period:  Although I've actually been reading quite a bit, I've not finished any more books.  I'm about halfway through with Babywise (plan on finishing that by the end of July!) and I've been brushing up on my financial sense with an 800-page money management book that I don't know if I will ever actually finish, but it's extremely helpful as a reference!

---

4.  Run another half marathon.   Complete a post-baby 5K.  (No progress.)

Gotta have that baby first.  But, I did receive a jogging stroller as a baby shower gift from my mother in law and sister in law, so we've got the gear to make this one happen!

---

5.  Take a fun trip for The Boy From Texas' 30th.  (Location determined!)

We're T-minus one week from the birthday trip and I cannot wait!  Mountain resort, horse races, The Boy from Texas....it's gonna be awesome!

 ---

7.  Cook 52 more recipes in the Newlywed in the Kitchen series.  (14/52 completed).

Prior months recap:  5 through end of February; 10 through the end of April.

These past two months, I added 4 more recipes:  Pioneer Woman's Sour Cream Noodle Bake, Summer Grill Tacos, Pioneer Woman's Bowtie Pasta Alfredo (plus broccoli), and French Toast,  I'm gonna need to pick this one up if we're going to make the goal by the end of the year!

---

8.  Finish Uncle Black Belt's book.  (Some progress made).

Prior months recap:  As of April, we had Chapters 1-4 finished and were just starting editing on Chapters 5 and 6.

No new progress.  Totally my fault.

Prior months recap:
January:  New Day, New You by Joyce Meyer.
February:  Breathe Spiritual Passion into Your Marriage by Gary Thomas.
March:  Praying for your Elephant - Praying Bold Prayers
April:  Discerning God's Will

This period:  Not going to lie here, I had to do some major catching up on this goal the last week of the month, but we made it!!

May:  Hope  (This was a short, 3-day study, that included several verses for memorization.  My favorite:  "As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more." - Ps. 71:14.)

June:  Assurance  (This was another short plan focused on scripture memorization.)

10.  Complete 5 Pinterest projects (other than recipes).  (4/5 completed.)

Prior months recap:  Plant a ceramic pot garden (April), Plant a mixed plant pot (April).

This period:

First up, I sent a birthday box to ND Friend!  I got the idea here and failed to take any photos of my finished product.  But her birthday came not too long before she was due with her first baby and I figured that having cupcake supplies arrive in a box might be the perfect way to celebrate her big day.  I gathered up some fun napkins, cupcake liners, a contraption to let you fill your cupcakes with cream or frosting, a box cupcake mix (that included frosting!) and shipped that baby off to Chicago!

Second, I made some dried lavender bunches to freshen up the house!  (Idea from here.)  You might remember that lavender is one of the plants that I was growing in the pots and it did very well.  A few days ago, I trimmed the upper portion of the plants, let them dry a couple of days, and just tied the bundles with little bows.  We've got one in our bathroom and one in our bedroom and the scent is lovely!

11.  Knock off three more bucket list checkmarks.  (1/3 completed).

Prior months recap:  Meet a blog friend in person (January)

Nada.  Zip.  Zilch.  This is not good!  However, I think that July is going to allow me to knock two checkmarks off the list, so there is still hope.

13.  Listen to the New Testament.  (Minor progress made).

Prior months progress:  Matthew 1-10.

This period:  I've made no progress.  These next two months I am going to get through listening to the gospels if it kills me!

14.  Pray Novenas for 12 friends and send them notes to tell them about it.  (6/12 completed).

Prior months progress:
January:  Novena to St. Anne for a friend suffering through infertility.
February:  Novena to St. Joseph for my single friends.
March:  Novena to St. Patrick for my friend and her growing family.
April:  Divine Mercy Novena for another good friend expecting a little one and a friend diagnosed with cancer.

This period:

May:  Novena to the Infant of Prague for two friends struggling with infertility.  After attending the Feast Day of the Infant of Prague while in Prague a couple of years ago, I am a huge devotee to this Novena.  I've got two very dear friends who have been dealing with infertility issues and wanted to pray this especially for them.  Hoping for news of babies on the way soon!

June:  Divine Mercy Novena for a good friend going through a very stressful time.  Taking time to intentionally pray for mercy and peace for her hopefully helped her as much as it did me!

15.  Organize my pictures.  (No progress.)

Why?  Because I'm lazy.  That's the only good reason.
